Romans 1:28-31

Romans 1_28-31

When people refuse to acknowledge God, thinking there isn’t any benefit in doing so, He gives them what they want. He leaves them. He does this so that they – hopefully – come to realize that He is the only source of good as their lives fall apart without Him.

When God leaves people they are then free to think what and how they want. Despite what your friends, lobbying groups, and political parties have been telling you, this is not a good thing.

Our minds are naturally filled with immorality. And since our actions are controlled by our thoughts, every action we take apart from God is evil. When we live without God all we think and do is sin. All of it.

By God’s design, we are incapable of doing good without Him. The only way to have good in our lives is to acknowledge and obey God. Otherwise, our lives are filled with sexual sin, deceit, arrogance, broken promises, greed, slander, and all the other things God lists in this passage; things that are clearly applicable to the current United States.

When a group of people, such as a country, rejects God and is then subsequently abandoned by Him, they are left to be governed by their own reprobate thinking, the consequences of which are an increase in sinful behavior and, accordingly, the prevalence and severity of problems and pain.

This is, of course, not good. But it can result in good if such people recognize their situation and make the necessary adjustment of repenting and submitting themselves to God’s wisdom and authority.

If they do not recognize and admit the reason for their predicament, they won’t make the necessary adjustments of repentance and submission. Then, their situation will continuously get worse until they do.

If they ever do.

They may decide to stubbornly continue down the path of refusing to see, or to even consider, the evidence for their deteriorating condition. Even if that evidence is clear. Even if that evidence is brought to their attention.

Out of pride, they may continue to cling to their own independent reasoning, refusing to acknowledge the value of the instructions that God has plainly – and lovingly – given them in the Bible.

And if that happens… well, then sin – and its accompanying misery – will increase due to the lack of the valuable presence of God in their lives.

And they’ll continue to disintegrate until they are no more.
